![]() From the Infinity brand cover treatments, to the panel based recaps, to the character thumbnails, to the chapter headings and title pages, and most importantly the infographic checklist, in the back of each issue, Marvel went to the extreme, to set this event above its normal publishing parameters and create a package that seemed unique.įirst, is the cover treatment, which was branded across the top of every book. Besides this, the execution of this book, as a publishing event, has been spot one –almost to the point of perfection. Not only did it craft a story that was compelling through its entire publication, but its structure, marketing and production was the best the comics industry has ever seen.Īlthough the event began with a fairly substantial marketing misstep, in which Marvel revealed that their next event would be called Inhumanity, and wound up spoiling a prominent plot point in Infinity, this was unavoidable in an industry, in which the next story starts, the week after the last one ends. ![]() ![]() ![]() Marvel’s Infinity, written by Jonathan Hickman and drawn by Jim Cheung, Jerome Opena, Dustin Weaver, Leinil Francis Yu and Mike Deodato is one of the most successful event comic stories ever completed. ![]()

![]() They did add a chapter to rock folklore, however, after releasing their best record (1994's tormented The Holy Bible), when lyricist Richey Edwards- suffering from anorexia, alcoholism and a pattern of self-abuse that culminated in him carving "4REAL" in his arm with a razor blade during an interview with Steve Lamacq as a manner of addressing critics who doubted the band's conviction- disappeared, never to be seen again. Their debut, Generation Terrorists, walked a weird line between agit-punk, cock rock, romantic melodicism and glam, and was so obviously patterned after The Clash's London Calling that it was actually kind of cute. Back when they were just four unknowns in heavy eye shadow and feather boas with slogans scrawled on their clothes, they famously had the audacity (or was it marketing savvy?) to proclaim that they would make the greatest rock album ever and then split- neither of which panned out, of course. The band has managed to squeeze six albums out of that approach, which in itself tells you something. ![]() |
